Interesting premise, set in fictional 1920s。 Bruce Wayne is more of an explorer than a crime-fighting vigilante, but there's still plenty of Bats (just a different type of him)。 I like the renditions of various DC characters & Batman villains, such as Green Arrow, Two-face or Poison Ivy。 The story itself was a bit convoluted and at some point I didn't really understand why certain things were important or relevant, but I pushed through because I was enjoying the atmosphere and tone。 The art was Interesting premise, set in fictional 1920s。 Bruce Wayne is more of an explorer than a crime-fighting vigilante, but there's still plenty of Bats (just a different type of him)。 I like the renditions of various DC characters & Batman villains, such as Green Arrow, Two-face or Poison Ivy。 The story itself was a bit convoluted and at some point I didn't really understand why certain things were important or relevant, but I pushed through because I was enjoying the atmosphere and tone。 The art was hit and miss - some of it was good, but I had a hard time distinguishing characters by their faces - they mostly looked alike, and not particularly pretty。 。。。more

A very, very strange story。 I liked the tone at first, and the illustrations were very interesting。 I think there was a cool story here, it just didn't click very well as a Batman story。 I'm a stickler for AUs/Elseworld stories keeping character's as believably in character as possible and this just didn't satisfy that。 A very, very strange story。 I liked the tone at first, and the illustrations were very interesting。 I think there was a cool story here, it just didn't click very well as a Batman story。 I'm a stickler for AUs/Elseworld stories keeping character's as believably in character as possible and this just didn't satisfy that。 。。。more

LovecraftianishGreat artwork and the story got off to a great start。 Purchased this because I am a fan of Lovecraft's work and I like Batman but for me, the Lovecraftian Horror wasn't quite there。 Dr。 Herbert West felt like an afterthought and contributed nothing to the story。 By throwing in so many Batman characters the story felt diluted and I think it missed it's mark。 If you're a fan of Mignola's art this book won't disappoint but if you are craving cosmic horror, pick up one of Lovecraft's LovecraftianishGreat artwork and the story got off to a great start。 Purchased this because I am a fan of Lovecraft's work and I like Batman but for me, the Lovecraftian Horror wasn't quite there。 Dr。 Herbert West felt like an afterthought and contributed nothing to the story。 By throwing in so many Batman characters the story felt diluted and I think it missed it's mark。 If you're a fan of Mignola's art this book won't disappoint but if you are craving cosmic horror, pick up one of Lovecraft's actual books。 。。。more

I read this in under two hours。 I’m not a big Batman comics fan but I really liked this one。 I have read some Mike Mignola and I like his art style and how he writes about the supernatural。

Mike Mignola, creator of Hellboy and the B。P。R。D, doing a Batman comic where the Caped Crusader must fight Lovecraftian eldritch gods and monsters, this should have been fantastic。。。instead, it's just incredibly disappointing。 Mike Mignola, creator of Hellboy and the B。P。R。D, doing a Batman comic where the Caped Crusader must fight Lovecraftian eldritch gods and monsters, this should have been fantastic。。。instead, it's just incredibly disappointing。 。。。more

Reading The Courtyard and Neonomicon this month really drove home for me how much "Lovecraftian" just means "there's ancient monsters" to most people doing a Lovecraft riff。 This is old tymey Batman versus some ancient monsters。 Does the old tymey Batman thing better than Gotham by Gaslight, but that's not saying much。 Some of the artwork is cool。C+ Reading The Courtyard and Neonomicon this month really drove home for me how much "Lovecraftian" just means "there's ancient monsters" to most people doing a Lovecraft riff。 This is old tymey Batman versus some ancient monsters。 Does the old tymey Batman thing better than Gotham by Gaslight, but that's not saying much。 Some of the artwork is cool。C+ 。。。more

Although it is not tagged as an Elseworlds title, it feels like one。 Another story, in a long line of Batman stories , that places the Batman mythos in another time period。 In this case, the action takes place in 1928。 Bruce has been away for many years at sea。 He returns with Tim, Dick, and Jason and dons a Batman costume to solve a case。 Many other familiar supporting cast are here。 But, they are a bit different。

I really liked the self-contained nature of the story and the fact that the writer wasn't afraid to。。。well that would go into spoiler territory。 But it's safe to say that people who like cosmic horror and Batman will enjoy this combination of the two and they'll face many unexpected and exciting revelations and a fairly jaw-dropping ending。 I really liked the self-contained nature of the story and the fact that the writer wasn't afraid to。。。well that would go into spoiler territory。 But it's safe to say that people who like cosmic horror and Batman will enjoy this combination of the two and they'll face many unexpected and exciting revelations and a fairly jaw-dropping ending。 。。。more

An ominous else-worlds depiction of Gotham that takes the usual Lovecraft influence to the next level。 The dialogue and writing could be better but the art and concepts are great。

Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham - 3。5/5A Lovecraftian tale of 1920s Batman from Mike Mignola, Richard Pace and Troy Nixey。 Feels a fair bit like a Hellboy story that escaped before latching itself, like some Lovecraftian monstrosity, to a jazz-age Batman。The best aspect of this story was the many interesting reimagining of classic Batman characters: the betentacled Two-Face, the spiritual medium Oracle, the Knight Errant Oliver Queen。 These interpretations, set in the pre-crash squalor of d Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham - 3。5/5A Lovecraftian tale of 1920s Batman from Mike Mignola, Richard Pace and Troy Nixey。 Feels a fair bit like a Hellboy story that escaped before latching itself, like some Lovecraftian monstrosity, to a jazz-age Batman。The best aspect of this story was the many interesting reimagining of classic Batman characters: the betentacled Two-Face, the spiritual medium Oracle, the Knight Errant Oliver Queen。 These interpretations, set in the pre-crash squalor of decaying Gotham, bring a new life to these characters and gives them a Lovecraftian, or weird fiction, edge。However, the characters are also what bring down the book the most。 There are just too many of them: Batman, Alfred, three Robins, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Killer Croc, Ra's and Talia al Ghul, Oliver Queen, the list just keeps going and going and going, not letting any of these interesting interpretations stand out for very long。Additionally, Batman feels a little off to me, less brooding Dark Knight more the sort of gruff 'its-in-the-job description ma'am' Hellboy type character。 This adds to the feeling that this story somehow managed to escape from the Mignolaverse but does make the connection to Batman as an idea a little tenuous。Overall, a really fun story of cosmic horrors hampered by an overabundance of interesting ideas and off characterisation。 。。。more

Batman takes the place of Hellboy-fights with a Victorian lovecraftian creature。 A nice and dark Batman story。

I always think I’ll like these kind of mash ups, but I’m mostly always disappointed。 I like Lovecraft and I love Batman, but meh。 The Doom That Came to Gotham started off pretty good but the story was compromised by trying to fit in too many Batman characters, too soon。 Resulting in a lot of prematurely blown wads。 As nice as the art is, it couldn’t carry the story。

As an AI language model, I cannot give subjective opinions。 However, Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham is a comic book miniseries written by Mike Mignola and illustrated by Troy Nixey。 It is a reimagining of the Batman mythos, set in the world of H。P。 Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, incorporating supernatural elements and horror themes。 The series received critical acclaim for its unique approach to the Batman character and for its eerie and atmospheric artwork。

As an AI language model, I am not capable of reading books, but I can give you some information about the book Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham。 This graphic novel was written by Mike Mignola and Richard Pace and was published in 2001 by DC Comics。 It is a one-shot story that explores an alternate reality where Gotham City is a Lovecraftian nightmare realm filled with eldritch horrors, and Batman is its only hope for redemption。 The story draws inspiration from the works of H。P。 Lovecraft and features many of Batman's iconic villains, such as the Joker, Two-Face, and the Mad Hatter, as twisted versions of themselves。 The book's artwork is notable for its noir-inspired style and atmospheric coloring that enhances the story's supernatural themes。 Overall, Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham is an excellent read for fans of the Dark Knight and Lovecraftian horror alike。

tpg2
